Free State, Western Cape & North West
Wing shooting in South Africa has gained increasing popularity in the last few years. The latter can easily be added to any safari; the majority of our bird shoots are conducted in the central part of South Africa and now the Western Cape.
Here hunters can test their skill on a variety of bird species such as Dove, Pigeon and Waterfowl.
Bird hunting seasons vary from area to area, but generally March through to September are the prime months. We strongly recommend the use of 12 Gauge shotguns, as ammunition is readily available both of which we can supply. For some really hot barrel shooting, nothing can beat the immense flocks of pigeons and doves shot over sunflower or cornfields. These are our areas in the flat granary farming districts of the Free State and North West. This provides for some of the finest pigeon shooting. Great fun!
The variety of bird species available ensure a varied wing shooting experience. Waterfowl, are mostly shot from blinds and over decoys and for this we have recently secured an area just outside Cape Town. This is perfect as Cape Town, steeped in history is host to a multitude of attractions; Table Mountain, now one of The Seven Wonders of Nature, fantastic restaurants, The Castle, beaches, forests and wine farms to name a few.
Wing shooting safaris are tailored to suit each group’s specific requirements and is a great way to spend a few days then moving on to safari areas for other species or going on tour.
